Bonanza- the
sixty’s western rocker.
The second longest running Western
TV series that has caught the attraction of thousands of western
lovers is the Bonanza. It is the American western series that ran
from September 12, 1959 to January 16, 1973 and completed 14 huge
seasons. It was broadcasted on NBC. It continued to air in
syndication starting by Pernell Roberts, Lorne Greene, Dan Blocker,
and Michael Landon.
At the starting the rating of this TV
serial was not so good. But gradually it improved and in the mid of
sixty it became the most favorite western TV show. And the rank
remains 1 for four years. The Bonanza theme song is one of the best
TV music. It was featured by ay Livingston and Ray Evans. Lorne
Greene and the cast in the near future recorded the song with lyrics.
The same song by slightly modifying was used in all seasons. In the
pilot episode only the vocal was used and after that only the music.
In 1970 a new song called “the big Bonanza” was introduced and it
was composed by David Rose. In season 14 the previous version but a
little faster was used.
The show was based on the weekly
adventures of the Cartwright family. The founder of the family was
Ben Cartwright (played by Lorne Greene) who was an old widowed
person. He had three sons of different natures and also from
different wives. The eldest son was an urbane architect named Adam
Cartwright (played by Pernell Roberts) who built a ranch house. The
second one was the most lovable giant Eric, popularly known as "Hoss"
(played by Dan Blocker). And the youngest was the hotheaded and
impatient Joseph or "Little Joe" (played by Michael
Landon). Immigrant Hop Sing (played by Victor Sen Yung) was the
family cook.
The Cartwright family lived in the thousand
square mile ranch known as the Ponderosa. It was situated in the
shore of the Lake Tahoe in Nevada. The name of the ranch refers to
the common term in west Ponderosa Pine. The series was focused on the
father and three sons and their livelihood, culture and how the
brothers are connected to each other and their bonding. Including
everything the series was very much interesting and touchy too.
